A Long-established, Reputable Brand, Specialized in Offering Premium Quality Goods

Kam Kook Yuen Cured Meat Shop was established in 1924 and officially opened its doors for business at 99 Wing Hing Street, Sheung Wan. This long-established establishment has been jointly operated by four families ever since. When Mr. Leung Po Tong of the Leung family opened the first Kowloon branch at 598 Shanghai Street, Mong Kok, and subsequently relocated it in 1962 to 658 Nathan Road, he kickstarted a transformative new chapter for Kam Kook Yuen, spreading its name even further.

Early Development

In the vibrant decades of the 60s to 80s, Kam Kook Yuen Cured Meat Shop gained widespread popularity overseas for its exceptional, home-made products. The cured meat, crafted in-house, boasted outstanding quality, causing a sensation in countries such as the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The reputation of Kam Kok Yuen Cured Meat Shop extended far and wide, earning acclaim for its delectable offerings. In 1961, Princess Alexandra of the United Kingdom visited Hong Kong and paid a visit to Kam Kook Yuen shop located in Mong Kok. The late Mr. Leung Po-tung, the person in charge of Kam Kook Yuen, mentioned that during Princess Alexandra's visit, she suggested that Kam Kook Yuen should have an English name for the convenience of foreigners. Therefore, Mr. Leung personally gave the shop an English name: Kam Kook Yuen. The English name on the Kam Kook Yuen trademark is indeed Mr. Leung's own handwriting.

The Origin of the Brand

The origin of the English name 'Kam Kook Yuen' in the trade mark is derived from the signage of the Mong Kok shop in the own hand writing of Mr. Leung. The style of the Chinese characters and floral pattern is consistent with those created by the Leung family and traditionally used by the four families. To prevent food enthusiasts from mistakenly purchasing inferior products, Kam Kook Yuen published a statement in newspapers, emphasizing its status as a well-established cured meat shop brand with a longstanding reputation for specializing in premium quality foods. The statement encourages customers to identify the Kam Kook Yuen trademark to ensure they make informed choices and avoid any misunderstandings. This trade mark has been maintained by the Leung family up to now.
